Istanbul clashes could lead to a Turkish Spring, but tourism would be big loser

Turkey has staked a big part of its future on travel and tourism and benefited with unrest in the Arab region over the last two years. Any big unrest would have a dire effect on Istanbul's cool city image and the larger tourism economy.

This morning, Turkish police surrounded protesters in Taksim Gezi park, the central square in Istanbul, blocked all exits and attacked them with chemical sprays and teargas.
