Istanbul’s Blue Mosque sits on the brink of modernity, with a hint of traditional.

ISTANBUL: It is early morning in the popular tourist area of Sultanahmet in Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul. The sun is just beginning to peak over the row of historic sites and the minarets of the world’s most famous Hagia Sofia and Blue mosques as the residents meander through the narrow back streets trying to beat the morning rush. The call to prayer begins to bellow from a nearby local makeshift mosque, but is quickly drowned out by the latest Turkish hit as two youths drive by, speakers’ blaring.
