EU and Turkey: Report Impact is Mixed

The EU's much-waited 2012 progress report on Turkey was released on Wednesday (October 12th), spotlighting deficiencies in meeting political goals, especially fundamental freedoms and rights.
The report drew high-level reaction from Turkish politicians, who termed it too negative and drafted under the influence of Greek Cypriots. "With this pessimistic approach, the EU, unfortunately, overshadowed the positive agenda that was launched in May," Turkey's EU Minister Egemen Bağış, told reporters.
