Recent news reports indicate that Turkey and Iran have entered into a new cold war. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç openly criticized the Iranian regime and said: “I am disappointed with the Iranians' attitude. Turkey was sharing intelligence with Iran concerning the PKK, but Iran did not help Turkey know more about PKK units on Iranian territory.” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has also criticized Iran in recent months.
