02 February, 12:38

(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, FEBRUARY 2 - Temporary refugee camps in Turkey's Hatay province have experienced severe floods after Syria opened the floodgates of a dam further upstream on the River Asi, as Turkish Cihan news agency reports. Around 9,000 Syrian refugees who have fled ongoing violence at home remain in the temporary tent cities. For the last 15 days heavy rain has continued in Hatay, although freezing conditions and snow are now setting in. The increase in water runoff has caused the already swollen River Asi to burst its banks.
