Turkey’s AK Party: ‘Democratization Package’ to Free Expression

The year 2011 was “a black year” to freedom of expression in Turkey, as a Turkish journalist association put it recently.
But the Turkish government has promised amendments to laws which restrict freedom of expression in a so-called Democratization Package, to be launched after the New Year. The promise was made over the weekend by Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay.
