European Union’s scornful approach to Turkey

Sir, You label the stalemate in Turkey’s European Union accession talks “unfortunate” and call for improved relations between the two (“Talking Turkey”, Editorial, October 6). But the increasingly antagonistic and alienated relationship is not just “drift” but rather a major strategic and geopolitical failure on the part of the EU (notwithstanding Turkey’s sometimes prickly behaviour).
