"Istanbul a fascinating, though crowded, end to a great trip
TOM BLAKE

This is the sixth and last part of columnist Tom Blake's series on the challenges of traveling when you're older. Tom is 70; his partner of 12 years, Greta, is 69. They took a monthlong trip to Europe, and today's article is from Istanbul, Turkey. To see the other installments in the series, follow the links in the box with this story.

My partner, Greta, and I are on the final leg of our monthlong European trip, spending the last five days in Istanbul, Turkey.

We are staying in a one-bedroom apartment that overlooks the Golden Horn, a body of water about a half-mile wide that divides the historical section of Istanbul from the modern section. Istanbul is immense and crowded, with a population of 16 million."
