I left Dulles airport on December 2 and arrived in Ankara on December 3, met by a graduate student in the American Studies dept. at Bilkent University and a university car. The two-bedroom apartment is very nice and newly remodeled. I had a light dinner with the department chair, Ted Kohn, and two other members of the department. We ate at the Bistro, less than 50 yards from my apartment—or lojman. (Ted said it’s very popular because it’s the only place on the 1200 acre campus that sells alcohol.) The next day I met the rest of the regular faculty all but one. And today (Monday) I met Dennis, my last introduction."
