Eight Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes with PKK fighters in south-eastern Turkey on Tuesday. Seven were killed in a firefight in a mountainous area near Eruh, another near Cukurca on the border with Iraq.
The deaths come at a sensitive time as the Turkish government wrestles with a new plan to resolve the long-standing Kurdish problem. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “The bullets that threaten our security forces will never harm the unity of our country of 72 million – and will not be allowed to disrupt the peace process.”"
