"Turkish business world hopeful to weather financial tidal waves

Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said they had learnt much from past experiences and had taken necessary precautions to try and avert the worst of the crisis. Speaking in Eskisehir, Unakitan said the first to be affected by the crisis will be the non-financial sector and small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), noting that the ministry planned to offer them support. “We will make the necessary arrangements to give SMEs loans at low interest rates. We want to make sure they are minimally affected by the crisis,” noted Unak?tan. He said the effects of the current global financial crisis will appear in Turkey later than in more developed countries and mentioned that they will have to revise their financial policies. “We inspect banks closely and we rely on our banking system."
