ISTANBUL, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Lessons learned the hard way have left Turkey's banks relatively robust as their western peers topple, with loans well covered by deposits, limited debt rollover pressure and solid foreign exchange reserves. The sector has not escaped the global financial turmoil unscathed. Istanbul's index of banking stocks has fallen 48 percent since the start of the year, in line with the wider Turkish stock exchange, as credit has dried up."
