At the beginning of July, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said that the necessary agreements for the construction of the Nabucco pipeline project would be signed in a matter of months. The EU-supported project is designed to deliver 31bn cubic metres of gas from Caspian Sea and Middle East suppliers from Turkey through to Bulgaria, Romania, and
Hungary to a European distribution hub in Austria. The 3,300km pipeline would reduce European dependence on Russian gas supplies."
