Although interest in world cinema has been growing in Turkey, Turks are still a long way from being able to enjoy the riches of Indian cinema. This general lack of knowledge about Indian cinema has, however, one exception: Raj Kapoor's 1951 film �Awara.� The now-classic film has become an icon of Bollywood in Turkey and has created a place for itself in the Turkish psyche. Almost all Turks over a certain age have seen the film and remember its melody and main characters. It is, however, likely that this the only Indian film that most have seen."
