With the recent statement of Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdoğan that the government plans to invest up to $12 billion in Turkey's southeastern region as part of efforts to erode support for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), eyes turned to Turkey's pro Kurdish Southeast which has been staged for many same old scenarios to stir up regional economy to cut out the human resource of the PKK reportedly being fed poverty and illiteracy. Since the founding of the Turkish Republic, governments have tried to wipe out the support for the PKK with 17 economic packages, some which were never put into practice. "
