"Turks becoming obese because of traditions

Obesity rates in Turkey will reach 39 percent by 2025 due to unhealthy lifestyles, according to the World Health Organization. Professor Candeğer Yılmaz, talking at the sixth Public Health Congress held in İzmir yesterday, said based on research carried out by the World Heath Organization, the rate of obesity in Turkey will reach 39 percent by 2025 because of Turkish traditions. 'This rate is estimated to be 26 percent worldwide and 100 percent in the United States,' he said, however, he added, 'Turkey will reach the number earlier than the expected date.'"
