Budget talks in Parliament were relatively heated as backstage was calm. Unfortunately at the point we came the talks have transformed into a symbol of a mundane democratic life. Sessions in the past were the stage of cut-throat discussions about the country's problems. Still the platform on Tuesday was alive and kicking. The Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal rather leaned on to a speech about economic policies. He said fight with inflation is unsuccessful, growth rate is regressing; unemployment and poverty issues are deepening. Baykal fiercely criticizing Finance Minister Kemal Unakıtan and Energy Ministry about corruption accused the government of dragging Turkey away from its traditional secular and unitary route in economic, political and governing aspects."
