ANKARA, Turkey: Turkish prosecutors launched an investigation into a pro-Kurdish party Friday, after it demanded autonomy for Kurds living in the country's southeast — a call that comes amid heightened tensions over how the country should deal with separatist Kurdish rebels.

Dozens of Turkish commandos crawled and fired their automatic assault weapons as they ran toward their fictitious enemy during a mock exercise Friday on the slopes of Mount Cudi, near the Iraqi border, while white smoke billowed from areas pounded by Turkish tanks, Dogan News agency footage showed. Hundreds of soldiers participated in the exercise, Dogan said."
