"Power of 'aiki' in Turkey-EU relations Monday, October 8, 2007

It was the same. There was the same kind of non-conflicting atmosphere present during President Abdullah Gül's address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe as well as during the speeches of the Turkish politicians and diplomats delivered at the Bosporus conference in Istanbul. Any tension or negative vibrations couldn't be felt in the air on either of the occasions. While listening to the speeches and later the deliberations on the Turkey-European Union membership I realized that it was the absence of the certain stress that made these venues different to many of such earlier examples. The reasons behind the almost very pleasant ambiance could hardly be found in the special or changed attitude of Europeans toward the Turkish matter. "
