"Antakya is beautiful

We arrive in Antakya after a ride away from the green lushishness of Syria's northwestern border and into the more arid and rocky regions of Hatay, this relatively new region of Turkey (belonged to Syria until 1938). The ride was still beautiful and our entrance into the city kept our hopes high for the kindness of southern peoples everywhere. A young man at the internet cafe lets me use the internet and charge the cellphone so we can get in touch with S, our friend who has a farm, an oasis really, outside of Antakya. i meet a young woman while making the phone call and she ends up guiding us to our necessary destination all the while chatting with me about Arabic spoken in the homes, visits to Syria, her desire to work in conjuction with Arab countries and other topics not as hot outside of Hatay. it was great."
