"Turkish Parliament Approves Direct National Vote for President

KONYA, Turkey, May 10 — The Turkish Parliament approved a constitutional amendment on Thursday that would allow the president to be elected in a direct nationwide vote.
More than two-thirds of the 550-member Parliament voted for the change, which has been sought by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to circumvent Turkey’s powerful secular establishment in getting his choice for president approved."
