Yesterday Turkish foreign minister Gul as expected failed to get a two-third majority in the second round of voting in the Turkish parliament for the presidency. After the vote Gul announced that he would redraw his candidacy for president. However, it should be noted that Gul has not ruled out running for president if the government manages to change the Turkish constitution so the president will be elected by popular vote rather than by the parliament."
