"Merkel: Turkey should be more tıghtly attached to Europe
Lending support to the evolution of democracy in European Union candidate Turkey, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has voiced need for a closer relations between Ankara and the now-27 member bloc, whether Turkey eventually enters the EU or not.
Nicolas Sarkozy is reportedly planning to travel to Berlin to discuss plans to get Europe back on track with Angela Merkel.
Addressing the 10th European Forum, held at the German Foreign Ministry late on Wednesday, Merkel was asked whether, taking into consideration the recent political turmoil in Turkey, supporting its EU bid would be useful. “Whatever the final decision concerning Turkey is, this country should be more tightly attached to Europe,” Merkel was quoted as saying in response."
