Hundreds of readers have been demanding a clarification of the current state of relations with the EU

Everyday, I get scores of e-mail and fax messages, with hundreds of questions. In recent weeks, most have been the same queries, regarding the European Union, which could be summarized thus:
�Something is going on with Turkey-EU relations and you write about this topic every day. All the columnists are commenting on this; those who are knowledgeable as well as those who have no idea. However, the language used is so strange that we cannot understand what is going on. Please tell us about this incident in a language we can understand, so that we shall know what to think.� "
