It is generally thought that the tesbih passed to the Muslims from Buddhism Traditionally only men use a tesbih. So the late Greek actress Melina Mercouri’s using one in the film 'Topkapı' was close to sacrilege. If women today use one, it most likely is as a necklace with the clasp coming to between the breasts"
