Is music only made for people to listen to? For audiences -- usually made up of people not involved in music professionally -- music also serves in learning. Becoming informed on a piece one listens to, on its composer and its performer, contributes in the audience's improvement.
The way in which former President İsmet İnönü -- the greatest music lover among all Turkish statesmen -- became a music aficionado is an interesting story. When he was in Yemen, he started listening to old records left by the French. When they first listened to classical music it sounded too rowdy. But as they continued listening they got used to it. We know that İnönü later became a frequent concertgoer and that he backed the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO). There are numerous books on music in his library, which is still maintained at the historic Pembe Köşk. "
