On Friday leading foreign policy commentators of the Turkish press gathered in a five-star Istanbul hotel to listen to Turkey's special representative to Iraq. Ambassador Oguz Celikkol had just arrived back in Turkey after a daylong visit with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Kurdish Deputy Barham Salih and Sunni Islamist Iraqi Parliament Speaker and Sunni Deputy President Tareq al-Hasimi. He gave us an off-the-record briefing of his meetings in Baghdad. But, if it had been on-the-record, I would find it very difficult to report anything since we didn't hear anything new or interesting about Turkey's policy on Iraq."
