"Outstanding European of the 21st Century," "Outstanding Mind of the 21st Century (U.S)." These titles belong to an American-born scientist who recently became a Turkish citizen, Professor Wayne E. Criss. Dr. Criss is an internationally known cancer research scientist who has authored over 235 scientific articles, 14 books (eight of them have been translated into Turkish), and educated 53 young Turkish doctors in cancer research, and a whopping $55 million for cancer research has been directed under his patronage to date.
Dr. Criss is married to a Turkish academic so he has spent most of the last 20 years in Turkey doing cancer research at Hacettepe University.
According to Dr. Criss, the reasons for cancer are very clear -- enzymes, genetics and toxins -- but what about the most common cancer types in Turkey and the reasons behind them?
