Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister George Iacovou's last-minute threat to veto the beginning of Turkey's European Union accession talks last Friday was a surprise for many and interpreted as his parting shot before leaving his ministerial post.
But for diplomats who have been closely monitoring developments in the Greek Cypriot administration, this was far from being a surprise and clearly reflected a new governmental policy, which may well possibly have a serious impact on Turkey's EU bid later this year. "
