NOW THAT the government-generated euphoria about its diplomatic victory over Turkey has subsided, we should ask what was really achieved by last weekend’s grandstanding by the Cyprus government at the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg? Had the threat of vetoing the opening of the first chapter, on science and research, of Turkey’s accession negotiations with the EU provided the Cyprus government with any tangible benefits other than to remind Ankara that it would have to fulfil its obligations by October?"
