Although Turkey was unable to join the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the government is making preparations for a “diplomatic football tournament.”
The International Friendship and Peace Football Tournament, to be organized by the Royal Company, will begin on June 22 with a match between a group of employees of the Turkish Foreign Ministry and another group of officials from the American embassy."
