"Turkey to join EU military operation in support of Congo elections
The European Union on Monday activated a military operation involving some 2,000 troops including troops of Turkey to help United Nations peacekeepers provide security during Congo's July 30 elections, the country's first democratic ballot in more than four decades.
EU foreign ministers, meeting in Luxembourg, authorized the launch of the operation, for which Germany and France will provide 1,600 troops. Another 500 or so will come from other EU countries. The Union soon will have around 500 soldiers in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa."
