Turkey’s success in bringing together in Istanbul last weekend the leading Sunni groups in Iraq with Zalmay Khalilzad, Washington’s envoy in Baghdad, is a diplomatic coup by any account. This development also highlights that Turkey is increasingly seen as a player in the region, regardless of whether everyone likes it or not. Put another way, the positive role Turkey can potentially play in Iraq is becoming more and more apparent as time goes by. "
