"Lillikas: north tourism needs direct flights to flourish
COMMERCE, Industry and Tourism Minister George Lillikas said yesterday it would be difficult for tourism to flourish in the occupied north without direct flights.
His comment came a day after Turkish press reports said the number of tourist beds in the north would double to 30,000 in the next two years, with an emphasis on Kyrenia and the so far unspoilt Karpass peninsula.
Speaking yesterday after a meeting with the Cyprus Hoteliers’ Association, Lillikas said what was more worrying was the fact that the new tourist developments were being built on Greek Cypriot property.
“This is an attempt to establish a fait accompli,” said Lillikas."
