Theodore White was one of the premier American journalists of the latter half of the Twentieth Century. He began his career as a reporter for Time magazine, and he reported from China during the Second World War and in the post-war era when that nation was in a civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists. White authored a book based on that experience entitled “Thunder Out Of China” in which he accurately predicted that the Communists would eventually win the war. That prediction angered his employer, Henry Luce, the founder of Time magazine, who had been born to missionary parents in China and was an ardent supporter of the Nationalists, and White saw fit to become a free lance journalist as a result. "
