"Turkey concerned about ethnic cleansing of Kirkuk
Jeddah, 7 December - On the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers in preparation of the Islamic Conference Turkeys Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul talked to the press about ongoing efforts of the United Nations to monitor and curb Kurdish Iraqi policies regarding the demographic features of the city of Kirkuk and about Turkeys concerns for Iraqi Turkmens' and other non-Kurdish residents' safety. Abdullah Gul revealed that Turkey had officially called on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to prevent the forceful transformation of the traditionally mixed city into an artificial Kurdish capital after the registration in Kirkuk polling stations of some one hundred thousand Kurdish voters residing in other parts of the country had been discovered."
