"Turkey must recognise Cyprus, hopefully soon: EU commissioner
BRUSSELS - European enlargement commissioner Ollie Rehn reiterated on Tuesday that Turkey must recognise the government of Cyprus and he hoped it would do so soon.
'Formal recognition by Turkey will have to take place, the sooner the better,' he told members of the European Parliament in Brussels.
He said a declaration that Turkey attached to a customs accord it signed on July 29 claiming that its signature was not an endorsement of the EU island member should not be allowed to undermine that accord, the so-called Ankara Protocol."
