Greek Consul-General in Istanbul Dr. Alexis Alescandris expressing his support for Turkey's European Union (EU) membership said, 'Turkey's accession will give a novel touch to the Union's cultural mosaic.'
Determining that Turkey will ultimately become a member of the EU, Alescandris drew attention to the cultural unity between Turkey and Greece deriving from their common history. Greek Consul-General reminded that capitalist movements empowered the nationalist movements and caused the secession of Greece from the Ottomans and added that despite everything Greece has always continued to embrace culture remaining from Ottoman history."
