Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has sent a letter to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking for Turkish support in preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, news reports said yesterday.
Carter is the founder of the Carter Center human rights organization, based in the American city of Atlanta. In his letter the former president informed the Turkish prime minister about his expectations of a U.N. conference attended by 188 signatories, including Turkey, of the 1970 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) in New York. He requested Turkish backing regarding the matter, NTV news channel reported."
