Tens of thousand of movie fans will pour into the theaters of Beyoglu and Kadikoy over the next two weeks to take part in the International Istanbul Film Festival, organized by the Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation (IKSV). The festival is the most prominent film event in Turkey and is considered a distinguished event in Europe. It will last 16 days, screening more than 160 films that are as varied as possible, including selections from acclaimed directors such as Roman Polanski and Neil Jordan, to new and promising works from South Korea as well as creative challenges by Peter Greenaway. Hlya Uansu, director of the festival, has cared for the event like her own child for the past 24 years, after taking charge in its second year back in 1983. Originally just a one-week fest, it's now a full-blown event that attracted 90,000 moviegoers last year. "
