"'European Information About Turkey is Out of Date'

Former Secretary General of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Albert Rohan said that Europeans did not have sufficient information about the reforms and developments in Turkey and added that the information they did have about Turkey was old. Rohan, the rapporteur of the Independent Commission on Turkey responsible for investigating the difficulties that Turkey might face during the European Union (EU) negotiations emphasized that the social, institutional and political system in Turkey had dramatically changed under the current government. The Independent Commission on Turkey had completed its tasks by publishing a report titled 'Turkey in Europe: More than a promise?' in September 2004. "
