Recent resignations from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) once again led to expectations of potent opposition and the need for proper political representation. If one can roughly distinguish political positions as �right� and �left,� governments have been on the right since 1950, the beginning of multi-party politics in Turkey, no matter what their names have been. Hence, right-wing parties or governments of different shades have been alternatives to one another over the past 55 years"
