Finally, Turkey decides to act on Armenian claims

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) coming together Tuesday and agreeing on the need for a very carefully written program countering Armenian claims of genocide was a landmark development that we hope represents a change in Turkey's way of dealing with controversial issues.
Issuing proclamations of rejection and protesting other governments and parliaments' adoption of political decisions supporting the Armenian charges has served no purpose over the years. The persistent hesitation of Turkish official and non-official groups to discuss the issue with the Armenians and other nationals has not succeeded in winning support for calls by Ankara to refer the issue to the historians.
