Turkish military leads social modernization

The General Staff recently introduced an extensive armed forces-led social modernization program called “Civic Training for Mehmetçik.” Indeed, with EU funding and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the military publicly unveiled its four-week civic training program for its mainly conscript army in June of this year. However, up until now, media coverage regarding the new program has been sparse and little is actually known about what is planned.
