US calls on Erdoğan to account for violations

With a huge and unprecedented reshuffling in the civil service, mostly in the financial, police and judicial sectors, Turkey's pro-Iranian government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thinks it may have escaped legal accountability for a massive corruption scandal that allegedly involved circumvention of US sanctions on Iran and even violations of UN Security Council measures. Well, think again. The Barack Obama administration, under pressure from Congress, has started to push the Turkish government for punitive measures against the sanction-busting state-owned banks that were allegedly used by Iran to move funds around the globe with the full knowledge of Turkish officials.
