Why Erdoğan wants to shut down social media
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has revealed that he is thinking of shutting down social media sites, including YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, right after the election. He claims that he does not want social media to hijack the Turkish nation. Expectedly, such a statement by Erdoğan has sparked harsh criticism among intellectuals, Internet users and the media.
