LONDON – In most democracies the leak of a tape recording purporting to feature the prime minister telling his son to hide their ill-gotten financial gains from anti-corruption investigators would usually spell the end of that leader’s political career. In Turkey however, things are not quite so simple. To understand the corruption scandal that has embroiled the Turkish political system in recent weeks, it is important to view the allegations in the context of a larger political battle unfolding.
