Events in Turkey since December 17 are not a mere bump in the road but constitute a major setback for Turkish democracy. 84 American foreign policy experts have written to President Obama, expressing concern that Prime Minister Erdoğan’s autocratic actions and demagoguery are not only subverting Turkey’s political institutions and values but also endangering the US-Turkey relationship.
