Janus is still reigning supreme in old Istanbul

In ancient Roman mythology, Janus — the god of transitions and time — marked both endings and beginnings. He was depicted in statues with two faces — one facing the past, one facing the future. As the god of passages, his image appeared at doors and gateways. As the god of transitions, his concerns included traveling, trading and shipping.
