Turkish society deeply polarized over corruption case

The ongoing corruption probe engulfing the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey continues to unravel. The second round of arrests came on Friday when police detained prominent businessmen. They are charged with tender fraud, bribery and forging official documents.
At the time when supporters of Justice and Development Party were greeting Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on Friday night, police were firing teargas at anti-government protesters in Taksim Square. In the wake of the ongoing corruption probe that broke last week and the arrest of 24 people, Turkish society has become deeply polarized. The sons of two former ministers, who recently resigned along a third minister, were among the detainees.
